New national data on the price of college shows once again New Hampshire’s public universities have the highest sticker prices for in-state students anywhere in the country.
For years, New Hampshire’s public colleges and universities have had among the highest listed tuition costs in the nation. New data released today from the non-profit College Board shows that trend continues in 2017.
Public four-year universities in New Hampshire have the highest in-state tuition in the country, while two-year public colleges in the state were second only to Vermont in sticker price.
The report also points out one of the major factors behind those high prices: low levels of state funding for the university system.
In New Hampshire, state funding for public universities is less than half the national average. And the amount the state kicks in is down over the last ten years by over 20 percent, according to the report.
In the meantime, schools have looked to fundraising and philanthropy to keep prices down. Earlier this year, fundraising allowed UNH to launch a new scholarship program that allows some in-state students to attend the university tuition free.
