Mayor Joyce Craig Nominates Assistant Chief Carlo Capano to Lead Manchester Police

MPD

Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig has nominated Assistant Chief Carlo Capano to be the Queen City's next Chief of Police.

Current Manchester Police Chief Nick Willard was recently nominated to become the next U.S. Marshal for New Hampshire.

Capano would then be bumped up to Chief as long as his nomination is approved by the Manchester Board of Aldermen.

Mayor Craig says she has the utmost confidence in Capano for the job, partly because of the wide range of law enforcement roles he's held.

"He served over 22 years in the Manchester Police Department, ranging from a patrol officer to a bike officer, detective, supervisor, SWAT team leader, and he was even a polygraph operator," Craig said.

Craig said she consulted current and past police commissioners and chiefs, residents, and city leaders before making her decision.

“Certainly the opioid crisis in Manchester is probably the biggest issue that we’re grappling with,” said Craig. “But as Assistant Chief, and as an officer, he’s had experience here.”

Manchester Board of Aldermen will vote on Capano's nomination at their next meeting on June 12th.
