Shaheen Calls For Action On Garland Nomination
Senator Jeanne Shaheen took to the steps of the federal courthouse in Concord to call on Senate Republicans to "get on with it" and take up Merrick Garland's nomination.
She says putting it off runs afoul of the constitution and senate tradition.
"The idea that we should not do this in an election year is just something that's been made up for partisan reasons. The fact is that 14 times in the history of the United States the senate has acted in an election year on Supreme Court nominees."
Shaheen said she'd not reached out to Republican Kelly Ayotte on the issue. Democrats have targeted Ayotte with millions of dollars in campaign ads on the topic. GOP groups, meanwhile, are running ads backing Ayotte's stance. Last week Ayotte she'd set up an appointment to meet with Merrick Garland, but reiterated that formal consideration of any nomination should wait until after the election.
