Sununu Says He Will Push For The Right Energy Projects

NHPR Staff

Speaking at a Business and Industry Association energy symposium, Chris Sununu said New England needs more natural gas and anyone who disagrees is wrong. He said the pipeline proposed for NH and scuttled by the Kinder Morgan company earlier this year would have been wrong for the state. But Sununu added he hopes Kinder Morgan and other companies will look to build here in the future, and said if the project is designed with local input, and he’s persuaded it works for New Hampshire, he’ll fight for it.

"And look I don’t mind putting my politics behind it if you will, my political capital. If we are going to get a better result for the state of New Hampshire that is all that matters, that is all that matters. And I think that’s the mindset that I hope you in this room, and I hope folks outside of this room take going forward."

Sununu said he believed New Hampshire  could become what he termed the gold standard for renewable energy projects, but said that doesn’t mean the state can address its power needs by focusing only on renewable projects. He also said he’d consider withdrawing New Hampshire from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, the cap and trade program known as RGGI, but only if other states in the region did so as well.
