In Nashua on Wednesday, Republican Ted Gatsas announced his plan to fight opiate addiction across the state. In front of city hall, Gatsas told a small gathering of reporters the heroin crisis needs leadership, saying, "My first act as Governor would be to declare this fentanyl heroin epidemic is a public health emergency."
That’s a declaration Governor Hassan has been criticized for opting against.
Gatsas also told reporters he would expand programs that are already under way in Manchester. For example, addicted people can now come to Manchester fire stations to locate treatment options and wait for access to them.
At the same time, he says, he will encourage police to charge all fentanyl dealers with attempted murder.
