Thursday, Nov. 22th

9:00 - 10:00 am:    Giving Thanks 2012

With music and stories for Thanksgiving, host John Birge creates a thoughtful, contemporary reflection on the meaning of the holiday. This year, the show features a grateful tribute to the great writer Nora Ephron, with a warm and funny highlight of her Giving Thanks visit last year.   New for 2012: original Thanksgiving music in the studio with pianist Jacqueline Schwab, heard by millions for her piano music for Ken Burns' "The Civil War." Plus, we’ll enjoy a Thanksgiving blessing from Baxter Black and a visit from poet and former NEA chairman Dana Gioia.

11:00 am – 1:00 pm:    Splendid Table's Turkey Confidential 2012

Turkey Confidential is a live, two-hour, call-in program on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. EST for public radio listeners across the nation.  Help is on the way for Thanksgiving cooks, kitchen helpers and dinner guests on this, the biggest cooking day of the year. Lynne Rossetto Kasper, award-winning host of public radio's national food show The Splendid Table®, will be available to answer listener questions throughout the live, two-hour program. Quickly becoming a Thanksgiving morning tradition, past shows have included everything from a cross-country trucker cooking his Thanksgiving dinner on the manifold to a panicked first-time cook who didn't realize a turkey needs to be thawed. Lynne handles all questions with wit, expertise and laughter.  Listeners are invited to call in at 800-537-5252 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST and the program will be simulcast live on the Web at www.splendidtable.org

9:00 - 10:00 am:    2012 Third Coast Festival Broadcast, Hour 1

Noon - 1:00 pm:    2012 Third Coast Festival Broadcast, Hour 2

8:00 - 10:00 pm:    2012 Third Coast Festival Broadcast – 2-Hour Special

Every fall, we bring the best new documentaries produced worldwide to the national airwaves in a special two-hour program, Best of the Best: The Third Coast Festival Broadcast. The featured documentaries, all winners of the annual Third Coast/Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Competition, prove just how powerful radio can be. The stories engage, provoke, entertain, and transport listeners, proving that all you need to discover new worlds is a little box and an antenna.  This year's special showcases the winners of the 2012 TC/RHDF competition, interviews with the winning producers, and highlights from our 2012 Third Coast Awards Ceremony hosted by the Kitchen Sisters and featuring the band The Hudson Branch.  Gwen Macsai, host of the Third Coast's Re:sound, and an award-winning writer/humorist, will guide listeners through this two-hour tour of the world's best new documentaries.
