DEA Chooses Manchester For Pilot Program To Fight Opioids

State and city officials will meet with a representative of the US Drug Enforcement Administration Tuesday in Manchester to discuss the Agency’s new strategy to address drug crimes in the city.

Manchester will be the first city in the Northeast to implement what the DEA is calling it’s “360 Degree Strategy” to combat prescription and heroin abuse.

The goal is to dismantle gangs and drug trafficking groups, stop prescription drug diversion, and educate communities. NH Attorney General Joe Foster says "it’s a recognition by the DEA, and by law enforcement generally, that you have to attack this problem on the supply side, and on the demand side."

Speakers at the Tuesday announcement include a special agent with the DEA; Manchester Police Chief Nick Willard; and the chief medical officer at Catholic Medical Center.
