Officials with the town of Durham say they remain concerned about a proposal to bury a long-distance power cable across a one-mile stretch of Great Bay.
Eversource, the utility behind the project, revised portions of its proposal after experts hired by the town raised concerns about the underlying science earlier this year.
But Durham Town Administrator Todd Selig says Eversource’s revisions weren’t enough to convince the town that the project will be safe for the Great Bay ecosystem.
Eversource is proposing to bury a portion of a 13 mile transmission line beneath Great Bay by a process known as jet-plowing. Eversource has maintained from the outset that the process will not harm the bay’s ecosystem.
The state Department of Environmental Services is set to weigh in on the proposal this week. Final approval of the project rests with the state’s Site Evaluation Committee.
