Princeton Wins Battle of Ivy Unbeatens, Tops Dartmouth 14-9

John Lovett ran for two touchdowns and Princeton held off Dartmouth to claim first place in the Ivy League with a 14-9 victory Saturday in a showdown between ranked Football Championship Subdivision squads and the first time two unbeaten conference teams have met in November since 2001.

The No. 1-ranked offense in the FCS needed to come from behind to run its win streak to eight games for just the second time in the last 23 seasons. Ironically, Dartmouth ended that streak, 28-24.

Jared Gerbino hit Robbie Mangas with a 13-yard touchdown pass to put Dartmouth (7-1, 4-1) up 7-0 in the first quarter. Lovett bounced off a defender to score on a 3-yard keeper to even it at 7-7, but was sacked in the end zone at the start of the second quarter to put Dartmouth up, 9-7.

Lovett finally put the Tigers (8-0, 5-0) in front with a 5-yard run with 6:33 left in the game.

Lovett completed 22 of 30 pass attempts for 161 yards, but was picked off in the end zone. He carried 22 times for 53 yards.

Rashaad Cooper became the first running back to rush for more than 50 yards against the Princeton defense, gaining 60 on 12 carries, but the Tigers held the Big Green to 213 yards of total offense.
