Health Care Reform a Hot Topic at Shaheen's Town Hall in Nashua

U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen held several public events in the state Thursday. She started the day in Durham and ended it at a town hall in Nashua where residents’ concerns focused on uncertainty in Washington.

Shaheen fielded nearly a dozen questions about federal matters such as the U.S. budget, President Trump’s executive orders on immigration and the conflict in Syria.

But one frequent question was on the fate of the Affordable Care Act. John May of Amherst criticized Democrats for failing, in his words, to offer any reform proposals.

“Nobody wants to have whatever the Republicans are conjuring up but we have no idea what the alternative could be,” May told the Senator. "That’s one of the debates we are still having, and I think we need to lay out a plan to explain what we need to fix the Affordable Care Act,” Shaheen replied.

House Republican’s health care proposal fell short last month but a new GOP-backed plan is expected to be released in the next few days.
