GOP Congressional Candidate Jim Lawrence Owes $15K In Property Taxes

Jessica Hunt for NHPR

Jim Lawrence, a Republican running for U.S. Congress from Hudson, hasn’t paid property taxes on his home for three years, according to the Concord Monitor, which reported Lawrence owes the town of Hudson $15,614 for a home valued at $289,100.

The news comes after NHPR raised questions about the work Lawrence says he’s done with his consulting firm, Lawrence Battelle, Inc.

Throughout his campaign, Lawrence has touted his company’s work as a military consultant, advising the Department of Defense. But outside of Lawrence's campaign literature, NHPR could find little trace of the company. (You can read that full story right here.)

Tuesday, Lawrence told the Union Leader he has tax returns and certified financials that “legitimize” his company, but said they may be subject to “proprietary and classification requirements.” (Read more here.)

Lawrence's opponent in the race for the state's second district, Ann McLane Kuster, has been late in paying her property taxes in the past, something she was criticized for during her 2014 campaign against Republican Marilinda Garcia. (Read more here.)

According to the Concord Monitor, the Kusters are currently up to date on their taxes for properties they own in Hopkinton and Jackson.
