GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Frank Edelblut Is Backing Trump (We Think)

Three Republican candidates for New Hampshire governor have said they will support the party's likely nominee for president. As for the fourth? That story is a little more complicated.

As we noted yesterday, NH1 News reported that candidates Jeanie Forrester, Ted Gatsas and Chris Sununu all said they would back Donald Trump as their party's presidential nominee.  The piece didn't report on a fourth candidate for governor, State Rep. Frank Edelblut of Wilton, so we reached out for comment. Here's the statement we received from the campaign via e-mail:

"It is critical we grow the New Hampshire and the nation's economy and, as of now, only one candidate has a proven record of creating jobs."

That sounds like a reference to Trump, who, of course, regularly touts his business record at campaign events and once said he would be "the greatest jobs president God ever created."

But since the statement didn't actually use Trump's name, we followed up: Was Edelblut's comment about the candidate with the "proven record of creating jobs" a reference to Donald Trump?

The reply read, in full: "That is Mr. Edelblut's statement."

So, there you have it. Donald Trump: the candidate who shall not be named.
