Forest Service Honor Guard Adds Another N.H. Member

U.S. Forest Service

A 30-person team that honors the service of fallen U.S. Forest Service employees now has two members from New Hampshire.

The USDA Forest Service Honor Guard attends funeral and graveside services for fallen comrades, as well as parades and other events. Diron Thompkins, a law enforcement officer with the White Mountain National Forest Pemigewasset Ranger District has been a member since 2010. Recently, Matthew Yeramian, the district's supervisor for visitor services, was selected to join the group.

Thompkins says the service has been humbling. He described standing guard at the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation Memorial in Maryland recently, and providing comfort to grieving families.

White Mountain National Forest offices will be closed Monday in observance of Veterans Day.
