The Bookshelf - Live from Peterborough

Peter Biello

NHPR’s literary conversation series The Bookshelf from NHPR is venturing out of the studio and into the stacks, with a special appearance at The Toadstool Bookshop in Peterborough.

On Wednesday, April 25, The Bookshelf Host Peter Biello will interview longtime Peterborough resident Elizabeth Marshall Thomas, a New York Times best-selling author.

Marshall Thomas will be reading from her latest work, The Hidden Life of Life: A Walk Through the Reaches of Time, followed by her literary conversation with Peter Biello.

In the 1950s, the author spent time in Africa on three expeditions; experiences that shaped her views on animal culture, ethology and anthropology and inspired future literary works on dogs, cats, and hunter-gatherers, among others. Her latest book stems from a lifetime of rich observations of both the animal and human conditions. According to publishing notes, The Hidden Life of Life “provides a plainspoken, big-picture look at the commonality of life on our planet, from the littlest microbes to the largest lizards.”

Ms. Marshall Thomas will be available for book signings after the event. Copies of her new book as well as books from her back catalog will all be available for purchase.

Attendees will be able to submit questions for Elizabeth and Peter at the door, or online through social media prior to the event (Twitter: @NHPRBookshelf or e-mail: books@nhpr.org).

Join NHPR and The Toadstool Bookshop for this special event, free and open to the public, or follow NHPR on social media for updates.
