Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Presidential Advisor Ivanka Trump will spend part of Tax Day in New Hampshire. The two White House officials will host a town hall discussion on taxes Tuesday afternoon at the Derry Opera House to highlight passage of the recent tax overhaul.
The event kicks off at 1 pm and will be moderated by former Governor John H. Sununu.
Senior Trump administration officials describe the event as part of a larger campaign to highlight that the country is “out with the old tax code and in with the new,” though most filers won’t see a big change in their taxes until next year.
A senior administration official called New Hampshire a state “very dear to the President” and said the administration felt there could not be a more “iconic way” to discuss tax reform than by hosting a New Hampshire town hall.
Ivanka Trump and Mnuchin will give remarks and take questions from Sununu, with most of the focus of the event being on potential individual and family benefits from the new tax law. Trump is scheduled to host a similar event in Ohio later this week.
Many members of the Trump administration have dropped through New Hampshire this year. President Donald Trump was in town last month to discuss the opioid crisis, and Vice President Mike Pence visited the state a few days later to talk with supporters about tax reform and fundraise for Governor Chris Sununu’s reelection campaign.
