Record Turnout in Nashua

Polling stations in Nashua opened at 6 AM this morning. And many stood patiently long before the sun appeared.

With temperatures hovering around 30 degrees, at least 150 voters wrapped around the Amherst Street School building before dawn.

Arthur Barrett is the town’s moderator.

He says by around 10 AM, almost 1500 had already cast their ballots.

He compares this turnout to that of 2008:

I would say this probably exceeds that by some number. That’s evidenced by the number of people who were here before we opened the door this morning. It was exceptional in my experience to have that many people here that early. Maybe that’s because the word has gotten out that this is going to be a very busy day.

Barret is referring to the secretary of state’s prediction that at least 772 thousand people will vote this election, a record exceeding the last presidential election.
