Drug Treatment Facility to Open at Sununu Youth Center

Construction is wrapping up on a new drug treatment facility at the John H. Sununu Youth Services Center in Manchester.

The 36-bed facility at the detention center will provide services to people ages 12 to 18 with substance use disorder.

The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services says the residential facility will be run by a non-governmental organization. Details will be made public at a meeting with the governor and Executive Council later this fall.

Earlier this year, the DHHSsecured a waiver to ensure the facility will be reimbursed for services provided to Medicaid-eligible residents.

The drug treatment program is one of many changes to the Sununu Youth Services Center since lawmakers passed a juvenile justice reform bill last year.

Lawmakers say the long-term future of the Sununu Youth Services Center is still uncertain.
