Parts of southern New Hampshire are now in a severe drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

The affected area includes much of Rockingham and Hillsborough counties, as well as southern portions of Cheshire and Strafford counties.

New data shows stream levels in the affected area have continued to decline, while soil moisture levels remain below normal. A number of towns in southern New Hampshire have put restrictions on water use in place as a result.

The rest of southern New Hampshire is in a moderate drought, while most of the rest of the state and region are classified as "abnormally dry."

There is rain in the forecast for the rest of the week and into the weekend.
