Winter Storm Warning for Northern N.H., While Rain's in Forecast for Southern Tier

A winter storm warning is in effect for northern New Hampshire, with a weather pattern that will begin affecting the Granite State Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service also issued a winter weather advisory for central New Hampshire into Thursday afternoon, and Thursday night. The forecast calls for heavy, wet snow in parts of Carroll, Coos, and Grafton counties.

Total accumulation of 5- to 10- inches of snow is possible in northern New Hampshire, and the state office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is warning of wind gusts of up to 35 mph.

Parts of Belknap and Grafton counties could still see 3- to 6- inches of snow, and similar wind speeds, according to the weather service.

Meanwhile, southern New Hampshire will see a wintry mix with periods of heavy rain from 5 a.m. to noon on Thursday. 

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for coastal Rockingham County from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.

Jennifer Harper, director of N.H. Homeland Security and Emergency Management, said in a statement that Granite Staters should anticipate hazardouz travel conditions Thursday, and that scattered power outages are possible in the northern part of the state.
