Sununu Signs Bill To Provide Free Menstrual Products In N.H. Schools

Dan Tuohy / NHPR

Middle and high-school aged students in New Hampshire will now be able to access free menstrual products.

Governor Chris Sununu today signed into law a bill sponsored by Democrats that requires public schools to provide tampons or pads in all gender neutral and female restrooms.

The bill was inspired by a Rochester high school student who learned some of her peers were staying home from school because they couldn't afford menstrual products.

Sununu said the bill would help ensure young woman can "learn without disruption – and free of shame, or fear of stigma."

Sarah Gibson worked in NHPR's newsroom from 2018 to 2024. She reported on education and demographics.
