House Committee Votes to Repeal N.H.'s Medicaid Work Requirement

A committee of New Hampshire House lawmakers is calling for the repeal of the state's Medicaid work requirement.

The controversial change to the state's expanded Medicaid program is currently on hold pending a federal lawsuit. It would require about 25,000 beneficiaries to work at least 100 hours each month or risk losing their health insurance.

A federal judge ordered a halt to the program earlier this year just as it was taking effect. The Trump administration and Governor Chris Sununu vowed to appeal the ruling.

Now the Democratically controlled House Health and Human Services Committee is recommending that the work requirement be struck entirely from state law.

With both chambers controlled by Democrats, the bill likely has the votes to pass, but could face a veto-threat from Governor Sununu.
