Colorado-Based Company to Acquire N.H.’s Mount Sunapee Resort

Vail says it's buying Triple Peaks, LLC, the parent company of Mount Sunapee Resort and two other properties in Vermont and Colorado for $82 million. The company says it also plans to assume the state land lease for Sunapee.

“We know our guests and employees will benefit from Vail Resorts’ outstanding track record of resort and community investment, environmental stewardship, and employee development,” Tim Mueller, president of Triple Peaks, LLC, said in a statement. “We care deeply about the legacy of these resorts, and have absolute confidence in Vail Resorts to celebrate what makes them so special, while also providing long-term stability for the communities.”

Catherine Corkery is a Chapter Director for the New Hampshire Sierra Club. She says the sale came as a surprise.

"The trend of what happens at Sunapee, sort of, is that everything happens behind closed doors," Corkery said.

In the past, advocates for the conservation of Mount Sunapee have been concerned about expansion of resort or real estate development.

Vail says it plans to invest $35 million in Sunapee and three other resorts during the next two years.

The company will retain the “vast majority” of resort employees, it says, in a sale it expects to wrap up this summer.
