Shaheen Leads Delegation To Europe To Learn About Refugees

U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen says her trip to several European countries underscores her belief that the United States can and should do more to take in some of the tens of thousands of people fleeing war and poverty in their homelands.

Shaheen is the lead Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Europe Affairs. She and several other Democratic senators have traveled to Greece, Ukraine and Germany this week to learn more about the Syrian refugee crisis. In addition to government officials, they've heard from refugees themselves, and business owners grappling with how tourism has been affected.

Speaking to reporters from Germany on Tuesday, Shaheen says the U.S. should both take in more refugees and support the humanitarian crisis.
