Governor Maggie Hassan announced six judicial nominees Tuesday.  According to the Hassan, all were recommended by the Governor’s Judicial Selection Committee.

Hassan hopes to fill two per-diem and two full time Circuit Court vacancies and one Superior Court vacancy.  A second Superior Court judgeship was created in the most recent state budget.

Hassan’s nominee for that new position is Mark Howard of Howard and Ruoff, a Manchester law firm. New Hampshire Public Defender Dorothy Graham is the other nominee for the Superior Court bench.

The Circuit Court nominees are Susan W. Ashley, Michael H. Garner, Kimberly A Chabot and Barbara A. Maloney.

All six nominees will have to be vetted and confirmed by a majority Republican Executive Council.

GOP Councilor Joseph Kenney says his biggest concern is addressing the judge shortage in Grafton County, which he represents.

“I’m going to bear down and ask tough questions,” Kenney says, “and ask for guarantees that we have someone to fill this bench position up in Littleton on a full time basis.”

Bench assignments are up to the Judicial Branch and occur after judges are confirmed.
