Organizers of "FourSquare Day" in Portsmouth say the city's walkable downtown is one of the reasons why the event is successful.

Portsmouth is hosting a community forum Monday night on the issue of heroin use.

The city has seen several heroin and opioid-related deaths already this year; it's part of a dramatic growth in drug overdose deaths in the state. Last week a 28 year old man died in the woods with heroin paraphernalia nearby.

Organizer Crystal Paradis says many residents who want to do something about the heroin problem on the Seacoast aren’t yet aware of the initiatives already underway.

“I just thought it would be good to get a lot of people together who aren’t yet connected with the people who are doing something," Paradis, said, "so we can all get plugged in to services and tactics that are happening already.”

The forum takes place at the Music Hall loft at 6 p.m.
