Parent Company of Stonyfield Announces New Buyer

Stonyfield, the organic yogurt company established over 30 years ago in New Hampshire, may soon have a new owner.

Danone has announced plans to sell Stonyfield to Lactalis - another giant in the dairy industry.

Lactalis is known for major cheese brands like President and Sorrento.

Danone's sale of Stonyfield was prompted earlier this year by its purchase of another yogurt company - WhiteWave Foods. That triggered fears of a dairy monopoly.  As part of its agreement with federal anti-trust regulators in March, Danone agreed to sell off Stonyfield.

Lactalis has agreed to pay $875 million for the company.
