Warmth, Snowmelt, Rain Raise Flood Concerns in New England

The National Weather Service says a combination of warm temperatures, rain and melting snow are fueling flood danger this weekend in northern New England.

Meteorologist James Brown says minor flooding is expected on Saturday and Sunday in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

He said one area of special concern is northern Maine which will see more rain.

The flood watch advisory for New Hampshire is in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday.

The National Weather Service is paying close attention to parts of the Connecticut River, the Pemigewasset River, and the Androscoggin at Rumford.

Aroostook Emergency Management Agency Director Darren Woods says motorists should heed any signs warning of a flooded or closed roadway.

Vermont's Emergency Operation Center says flooding is possible along a number of rivers. At least some roads across the state are closed Saturday due to high water.

Experts are reminding the public to never walk or drive through floodwaters because unexpected currents and unseen washouts can sweep people and vehicles away.
