Former Claremont Officer Enters Plea Deal, Faces up to 90 Days in Jail

NHPR

Former Claremont Police Officer Ian Kibbe entered a plea agreement in Sullivan County Superior Court on Monday, pleading guilty to two misdemeanor charges related to illegally searching a property earlier this year.

Prosecutors say he falsified documents to justify performing the search.

Kibbe, who was facing trial this month, will surrender his certification to work in law enforcement and serve up to 90 days in jail. His sentence will be decided at a later date.

"It's obviously important that he take responsibility for his actions, and we believe that he should be sentenced to a period of incarceration," said Geoffrey Ward, with the state Attorney General's Office.

A state investigation into a 2016 incident where Kibbe shot and killed a young man in Claremont remains ongoing. At the time, the Attorney General’s office cleared Kibbe of any wrongdoing, but prosecutors reopened the case in light of the recent charges.
