New Hampshire Public Radio and the New Hampshire Charitable Foundationhave a mutual interest in encouraging the growth of future community leaders and the next generation of individuals who will foster social capital and lead a strong New Hampshire into a global world. To promote the importance of this next generation of civic leadership NHPR and the NH Charitable Foundation have joined together to present the 2nd Annual Next Gen Civic Leadership Award.
This prize honors an individual who, through their volunteerism, philanthropy, and/or community involvement demonstrates a commitment to civic participation, strengthening their community, and developing personal leadership capacity to make New Hampshire a better place for future generations. In keeping with the missions of NHPR and the NH Charitable Foundation, this up and coming civic leader is someone who values building bridges between diverse people and communities, engages in civil dialogue as a tool to explore a range of perspectives, and pursues lifelong education as a means to understanding community issues.
We are thrilled to announce that the 2012 recipient of the Next Gen Civic Leadership Award is Pamela Laflamme of Berlin.
Pamela is a recipient of a Kennedy School fellowship, was named one of the 40 Under 40 by the Union Leader, and received two distinguished awards from Business NH Magazine. She has served on the boards of the Coos County Family Health Services and the Androscoggin Valley Hospital, among others. She has a deep commitment to the health and well being of NH’s North Country and currently serves as Chair of the Local Grants Committee for the Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund. In her application she stated,
“Living in an area that has a lot of need has really motivated me to figure out what interests me and follow those interests. I hope that I am modeling to my children how important it is to give back and be an active part of the community.”
While her career in public service with the City of Berlin has shown her how much of an impact local government can have on citizens, her commitment and work on behalf of residents in the region goes well beyond her day job.
The award was presented at the State of the Newsroom event, NHPR's Annual Meeting, by Barbara Couch, Chair, NHPR Board of Trustees and Peter Bergh, Chair, NH Charitable Foundation.
