N.H. Senate OKs Bill to Hire Full-Time Election Law Attorney

Allegra Boverman for NHPR

A bill that would hire a full-time attorney to enforce state election laws  unanimously cleared the Senate Thursday.

Currently the state has one half-time employee charged with investigating potential voter fraud.

Senator Bette Lasky, who sponsored the bill, says this workload is “virtually impossible” for one person to do part-time.

“If we are serious and I believe we all are in investigating, what many are quick to call election fraud, and get at the real truth, not the alternate truth, than we need to put our money where our mouth is,” Lasky said on the Senate floor.

Several GOP-backed measures are up for a vote this session to address what some claim is widespread voterfraud in the state. The bill now heads to the House.
