Prosecutors Say Driver of Truck That Struck Motorcyclists Under the Influence

A Coos County grand jury has indicted the driver of a truck that crashed into a group of motorcycles on 23 different charges, including manslaughter and driving under the influence.

Seven motorcyclists were killed when Vladimir Zhukovskyy, 25, allegedly swerved into oncoming traffic on Route 2 in Randolph last June. The riders were all members of the Jarhead Motorcycle Club, which is made up of Marine Corps members and their families.

The indictments include seven counts of manslaughter and seven counts of negligent homicide while driving under the influence. The indictments accuse Zhukovskyy of being “under the influence of a controlled drug, or a combination of controlled drugs” at the time of the crash.

Zhukovskyy previously entered a not guilty plea, and told law enforcement the evening of the crash that he was reaching for an object in the cab of his truck when he inadvertently drifted across the double yellow line.

Witnesses say they saw Zhukovskyy’s truck and attached car carrier swerve multiple times while travelling in the westbound lane.

He was released from custody the night of the crash, but was arrested at his home in West Springfield, Mass., and extradited the following Monday.

A bail hearing is scheduled for Nov. 5.

As a general assignment reporter, I pursue breaking news as well as investigative pieces across a range of topics. I’m drawn to stories that are big and timely, as well as those that may appear small but tell us something larger about the state we live in. I also love a good tip, a good character, or a story that involves a boat ride.
