Gov. Maggie Hassan is kicking off New Hampshire's annual maple syrup season with a tree tapping ceremony in Bow.
Monday's ceremony will take place at Treat's Sugarhouse, where Hassan will highlight the importance of agriculture in New Hampshire's economy, culture and environment.
Last year, considered a favorable season for maple syrup, New Hampshire produced 154,000 gallons of the sticky sweetener, or about 4 percent of the nation's total.
Vermont led the country in syrup production with 1.3 million gallons.
