Although the report acknowledged in several instances the town needed to do better, officials argue the sweeping police response to a pro-Palestinian protest on the Dartmouth Green in May was appropriate against a perceived threat to public safety.

A Dartmouth College spokesperson said the college’s Department of Safety and Security also is conducting “increased patrols along the waterfront” of the Connecticut River.
