Overheard - June Edition

We spend a lot of time researching stories, looking for segment ideas, and listening to hours of audio. In part because it's our job, but also because we like it! For the June Edition of Overheard, we welcome the newest member of our team Jimmy Gutierrezand we all share the best--and weirdest--audio stuff we've discovered recently.

Jimmy's Pick - Little Marcy

Little Marcy sure looks happy.

Little Marcy made her way into Jimmy's album collection recently and now he has done us all a kindness by sharing it for his first Overheard.

Here's the audio to Devil, Devil, Go Away.

Maureen's Pick - Outside Podcast

Maureen is also the Executive Producer of Outside/In our new show about the natural world. Outside Magazine has a podcast called Outside, and it is also amazing. She shared a recent episode their team produced about hypothermia that has a chilling effect on those who listen.

You can listen to the full episode below and check out their other offerings here:

Molly's Pick - Tacocat

It's pretty common for all of us to come across some pretty wacky songs in the process of preparing the show every day. Sometimes we stumble across something so delightful, we need to share it with everyone. This one goes out to all you X-Files fans.

Logan's Pick - Daveed Diggs

Logan has been pretty obsessed with the hit Broadway musical Hamilton and finally that obsession has bled into her professional life. Daveed Diggs plays two characters in the show: Marquis de Lafayette in the first half and Thomas Jefferson in the second. But it's his ability to rap at an insane pace that has Logan mesmerized. Here he is in Guns & Ships, Lafayette's big number from the show.

And here is Daveed Diggs on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon demonstrating that even though he's considered the fasted rapper on Broadway, he can and does rap faster with his band clipping.

Virginia's Pick - A Tribute to Prince

After the sudden death of Prince, fans and celebrities alike paid tribute to the artist. Including the Broadway cast of The Color Purple--and the audience--who sang Purple Rain after their performance.

Taylor's Pick - Campaign Theme Songs of Yore

There was once a time when Presidential campaigns created original songs to get people to vote for their candidate instead of using a popular song to get crowds pumped up. Taylor found a few examples of the bygone era of campaign songs.
