After 10 years of waivers, House lawmakers have approved a bill aimed at complying with the federal Real ID program, which tries to make state-issued drivers licenses more trustworthy and secure.   Real ID stems from the 9-11 attacks, after several of the hijackers were able to board planes using fraudulent state-drivers licenses.

GUESTS:

  • Sherman Packard - state representative from Londonderry and lead sponsor of HB1616. He is also a member of the House Transportation Committee.
  • Steve Shurtleff - state representative from Penacook and House Democratic Leader, and a former US Marshall.
  • Joel Winters - former state rep from Manchester. He sponsored a bill that passed in 2007 to have NH opt out of a national ID program (HB685).
