1st Congressional District

The state’s more competitive congressional district is a target for Republicans. With less than a week before the primary, it remains an open contest.

The 90-minute showcase gave voters a look at the candidates vying to challenge incumbent Democrat Chris Pappas.

The court-approved map moves five small towns, resulting in a balanced population between the districts.

Lawmakers have until June 1, when the candidate filing period opens, to come up with a new plan.

The new proposal lumps towns along Interstate 93 into a new 1st District that would bolster the GOP's chances of winning the seat.

The move follows a report by the Assoicated Press showing that the GOP congressional candidate cast ballots in both the N.H. and N.J. 2016 presidential primaries.
