CD2 Candidate Steve Negron: N.H. Voters Focused on Issues, Not Trump Controversies

Nationally, some Republicans are expressing worry about how the two major news stories this week - a guilty plea from the President's former lawyer and a guilty verdict in a case involving his former campaign manager - could affect the party's chances in the mid-term election.

State Rep. Steve Negron insists he doesn't share that worry.

The Republican candidate vying for a primary win in New Hampshire's 2nd Congressional District race contends the legal troubles surrrounding Trump associates have no effect on his campaign.

"Look, you know, Mr. Cohen and Mr. Manafort have their own issues," Negron said on NHPR's The Exchange on Friday. "It's not mine right now. Mine is about making sure that we have the right voice and the right message for the 2nd Congressional District."

Negron, a retired Air Force officer and small businessman from Nashua, says voters he's talked to do not bring up President Trump, whether it's Cohen or the FBI special investigation. "They’re worried about the debt, they’re worried about national security, they're worried about immigration, opioid issues—those are the things we’re hearing when we’re knocking on doors.”
