Ayotte Says She's Not Focusing on Presidential Race Amid Her Own Re-election Campaign

U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte continues to stand by her statement that she’ll support -- but not endorse -- apparent Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

At the opening of an addiction recovery center in Concord Monday, Ayotte, who is being challenged for re-election this fall by Gov. Maggie Hassan, told reporters she doesn’t have time to focus on endorsing anyone.

“I’m going to vote for our Republican nominee, but I don’t intend to endorse anyone in this race," Ayotte said. "I am running for re-election and I am really focused on serving the people of New Hampshire and the work that I do for them."

Two of Ayotte’s closest GOP colleagues in the Senate have taken different approaches to Trump. Sen. John McCain has said he will back Trump, saying it would be “foolish to ignore the will of the people.” Meanwhile, Sen. Lindsey Graham said he could not “in good conscience vote for Trump.”
