A woman armed with a handgun who was allegedly heading to confront a family member died Thursday evening after a police shooting in Bath, according to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office.
An autopsy determined that Jeanne A. Seto, 36, died from multiple gunshot wounds, though the circumstances of who fired the shots and when are still being investigated, the Attorney General's office said late Friday.
State troopers and local police had been looking for Seto earlier Thursday, according to the Attorney General’s office, and located her shortly after 7 p.m. Officials said she refused demands to stop driving as police pursued her along Route 112 toward Bath. Police used a spike strip to stop Seto's car near Route 302, and as they approached her, they found her armed with a handgun.
"During the interaction Ms. Seto suffered gunshot wounds and was then transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced deceased," according to a press release from the Attorney General's office.
No other people were injured, and officers were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting, the Attorney General's office said. The Attorney General's office said investigators will review the camera footage and interview those involved in the incident in the coming weeks and will release more information after that.
The Caledonian Record reported Friday that a statewide police alert said Seto was involved in a child custody dispute, had expressed suicidal thoughts, possessed a firearm, and was believed to be heading to her mother’s home in Bath. Her mother was identified as the child’s guardian.
“Subject stated she was going to kill her mother and get her baby back,” a dispatcher said in the alert, the Record reported.
