New Hampshire is marking Independence Day with parades, ceremonies and readings of the Declaration of Independence.

Governor Maggie Hassan will take part in a reading of the Declaration at Strawbery Banke in Portsmouth this afternoon.

In Dover, actors from the Garrison Players theater group read the Declaration while portraying some of those who pushed for Independence.

Tom Dunnington of Dover has portrayed Benjamin Franklin at the annual reading for over 15 years. "The Declaration was read to people and that's how people knew about it," Dunnington says. "They read the Declaration from various town halls and so forth. We thought the proper place to do that was right at City Hall."

Forecasters say the weather should cooperate for outdoor holiday events, with sunshine and warm temperatures across the state.
