UNH Football Looking To Make Playoff Run

On Saturday, UNH’s football team will travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina to take on the Wofford College Terriers in a second-round playoff game.

It’s the ninth straight year the Wildcats have made the FCS (formerly called Division 1-AA) playoffs, the longest active streak in the nation.

Head Coach Sean McDonnell says it’s the character of his players, as much as their talent, that keeps the Wildcats winning.

“I think we always find our type of New Hampshire players. What we call our New Hampshire guys, the guys that are blue collar, hard-hat, lunch-bucket type of guys, that buy into how we do things around here at UNH.”

McDonnell’s team went 8-3 this season, and is currently ranked 11th in the nation. Still, that wasn’t enough to guarantee them a spot in the playoffs. Instead, the Wildcats were awarded one of ten at-large bids.

They play No. 9 ranked Wofford; it’s the first ever meeting between these two schools.

It could also be McDonnell’s last game with UNH. He’s rumored to be a top choice for the head coaching job at Boston College.

As a general assignment reporter, I pursue breaking news as well as investigative pieces across a range of topics. I’m drawn to stories that are big and timely, as well as those that may appear small but tell us something larger about the state we live in. I also love a good tip, a good character, or a story that involves a boat ride.
