Favorite holiday tunes from listeners, a dose of old-time radio, and special themed programs will deck the airwaves of NHPR this season:

Holidays by Request with Rick & Emily

Are you an Elvis ‘Blue Christmas’ fan or more of an Alvin & The Chipmunks ‘Christmas Song’ connoisseur? New this season from NHPR, Holidays by Request features Morning Edition Host Rick Ganley and Producer Emily Quirk co-hosting an hour of listeners’ favorite holiday tunes. Take a listen and see if your seasonal favorite makes the cut. Broadcast times:

  • Saturday, December 23, from 9 to 10 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 24, from 2 to 3 p.m.

The Yule Log Old Time Radio Show

An annual holiday favorite, Rick Ganley and Sean Hurley share old-timey stories and memories – including tales of a Christmas tree that got away, a holiday song attacked by shock jocks, and a professional wrestler who secretly dresses as Santa Claus.

The Folk Show Holiday Special

How does it feel to be related to the writer who imagined Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghost of Christmas Past? A classic Exchange conversation from 2005 features Gerald Charles Dickens, an actor and the great-great grandson of Charles Dickens. Listen again to hear more about the magic of this timeless holiday tale.

Word of Mouth

New Hampshire stories, New Hampshire voices feature on NHPR’s Word of Mouth program.  For a special Word of Mouth marathon, tune in on New Year’s Eve for five episodes back to back.

Toast of the Nation, a holiday edition of The Capitol Steps, and a Vienna Philharmonic New Year’s Day concert live from Vienna, Austria, are just some of the other public radio holiday ‘presents’ you can unwrap this season.
