Three Carriers in for 2018 N.H. Health Insurance Marketplace

It's looking like New Hampshire customers buying individual plans on the state's health insurance exchange will have their choice of three carriers next year: Anthem, Harvard Pilgrim and Ambetter.

Anthem and Harvard Pilgrim both announced plans to stay on the exchange Wednesday. Ambetter confirmed their plans last week. All three insurers also offered coverage in 2017.

But the roughly 23,000 people currently covered by Massachusetts-based Minuteman Health will have to find another option in 2018. Back in June, the nonprofit insurer said it was going to try to re-launch as a for-profit for next yearThree , but it's since been placed under receivership in the state of Massachusetts.

Officials in New Hampshire and Massachusetts confirmed Wednesday that Minuteman would not be offering plans in either state next year. The company, in a statement, said it hopes to move forward with plans to relaunch, even if not for 2018's marketplace.

"Through the new company, we intend to offer self-funded solutions to the market and look forward to entering the insured market in the future when the rules stabilize," a statement from CEO Tom Policelli said Wednesday.

Governor Chris Sununu hailed Anthem and Harvard Pilgrim's participation as good news for state residents who get their healthcare through the individual marketplace.
