A new scholarship program will help some New Hampshire high schoolers major in STEM fields at UNH.
The program will provide mentorship, scholarship money, and even help finding a job after graduation for 30 high schoolers in Manchester and Dover with academic talent and financial need.
It’s a joint effort by UNH and the National Science Foundation to meet the demand for a skilled workforce in New Hampshire.
Dave Mattingly is a professor of physics at UNH and head of the new program. He says many students majoring in STEM fields struggle early in their college careers, especially if they come from low-income families.
“Members of STEM faculty and UNH faculty get into the high school early so we can actually help these students transition all the way through their senior year, and then stay with them as they move through college.”
Students interested in the program need to apply to UNH by February 1st to be eligible.
