The Executive Council voted Wednesday to confirm Dan St. Hilaire as a Superior Court Judge.

Previously a Merrimack County Attorney, St. Hilaire currently works for the New Hampshire Liquor Commission.

The two Democrats on the council voiced their opposition to the confirmation, including Councilor Chris Pappas, the congressman-elect for New Hampshire's 1st District.

Dan St. Hilaire was a county attorney, worked in private practice, has a passion for amateur astronomy, and currently works for the New Hampshire Liquor Commission. But it was his vote against a contract for Planned Parenthood of Northern New England in 2011 while serving on the Executive Council that generated the most discussion during his confirmation hearing Monday to serve as a Superior Court judge.

Governor Chris Sununu has tapped a Republican former colleague on the Executive Council to join New Hampshire's Superior Court. St. Hilaire of Concord is now a top manager at the state Liquor Commission.

Apart from serving as general counsel to the commission, St. Hilaire has been a city prosecutor, won election as Merrimack county attorney, and worked in private practice and as a state hearings officer.

From 2011-2013, he served alongside Governor Sununu on the Executive Council.
