State Senate Candidate Says He Won't Step Down From Teachers Union if Elected

Scott McGilvray of Hooksett is President of NEA-New Hampshire, the state’s largest teachers union, and that’s a job he says he’ll keep if he wins a seat on the state Senate.  McGilvray says there’s no conflict of interest, because he stopped doing any lobbying work.

"I'm not a registered lobbyist anymore," he says.

But McGilvray’s opponent, Republican Joseph Duarte, says McGilvray would still have to recuse himself from too many votes, leaving District 16 without a voice in Concord.

This race to fill retiring Republican Senator David Boutin’s seat in this swing district is a close one.
