Souter, Gregg To Discuss Civic Engagement In Nashua

NHPR Staff

Retired Supreme Court Justice David Souter is joining former U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg to discuss the role of civic engagement and education in American democracy.

Souter, who retired from the court in 2009, and Gregg, who left office in 2005, will speak at Nashua Community College on Monday as part of the Community College System of New Hampshire's "Touching the Future" project. The three-part project is tied to the 100th anniversary of the New Hampshire presidential primary, and includes high school and college civics courses, candidate forums and conversations with prominent people.

Several years ago, Souter helped create the New Hampshire Institute for Civic Education and a "Constitutionally Speaking" lecture series to educate teachers, students and citizens about the importance and obligations of citizenship and civics education.
