Former New Hampshire Gov. John H. Sununu underwent successful quadruple bypass surgery in Boston last week.
Sununu's office confirmed the procedure in a press release Monday.
"The governor is recovering very well from the procedure," his office said. "He is with his family and expects to return home within the week."
Sununu underwent surgery Friday at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston. He was originally admitted for a coronary angioplasty procedure, when doctors discovered a significant blockage of his arteries.
Sununu also served as chief of staff to president George H. W. Bush.
