New Hampshire Gets $3.8 Million For Early Education

New Hampshire’s work to improve early childhood services is getting a big boost with a nearly $4 million planning grant from the federal government.

Researchers at UNH will team up with the state Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Education to figure out the best way to coordinate and publicize services for kids.

UNH Researcher Dr, Kimberly Nesbitt is helping to coordinate the study. She says New Hampshire ranks high nationally for healthy outcomes for kids, but some families are struggling and don’t know where to turn for help.

"This is compounded with things like the opioid epidemic," she said. "How is that translating to the lives and well-beings of the children we serve?"

Nesbitt says her team will have a plan ready to implement by the end of the 2019.
