Vermont Teenager Drowns in Connecticut River

Via NH DES

The body of a Vermont teenager who disappeared while swimming in the Connecticut River has been found.

Officials say 15-year-old Casey Smith Jr. of Lunenburg, Vermont, had been swimming with his two sisters and three other friends Monday evening in the river in Dalton, New Hampshire, when he began to struggle in swift water.

One of the other swimmers also got caught in the same current and had to be rescued by a good Samaritan who heard their cries for help.

Rescue crews from both New Hampshire and Vermont responded and began searching for Smith. Divers located Smith's body Tuesday afternoon.
